Cedar Experiences

At our organisation, we prioritise providing guests with immersive experiences that showcase the beauty and diversity of the Cederberg region. Through collaborations with various organisations, we offer a range of activities designed to enrich visitors' knowledge and appreciation of this remarkable area.

For those seeking adventure on foot, guided hikes present an opportunity to explore the landscape firsthand. One such excursion leads to the remnants of old cedar plantations nestled within the shale bands. The hike, lasting approximately 1 ½ hours, meanders through breathtaking sandstone formations and the haunting remains of cedar trees, often victims of wildfires. For the more adventurous hiker, an additional two-hour trek leads to the iconic Wolfberg Arch, offering panoramic views of the Tankwa and rugged Cederberg terrain.

Alternatively, guests can embark on a self-drive journey to Cederberg Park, where a delightful restaurant awaits amidst the tranquil surroundings. Nearby, a 70-year-old cedar plantation, lovingly cultivated by the Nieuwoudht family, stands as a testament to their pride and stewardship of the land.

Join Sustainable Ceder for an unforgettable journey into Cederberg's heart, where adventure and conservation merge in perfect harmony.

Venturing further afield, a self-drive excursion to the village of Heuningvlei promises an enriching experience. Located approximately 1 ½ hours from Clanwilliam, this community boasts a newly established cedar nursery, a collaborative effort supported by Cape Nature, the Bodyshop, and local residents. Visitors can explore the nursery, contribute to conservation efforts, and even book accommodation at the backpackers' lodge, which serves as a base for the Heritage Trail.

In addition to these terrestrial adventures, we are proud to partner with Bushmanskloof Lodge, offering guests a luxurious retreat amidst the wilderness. As part of our collaboration, a satellite cedar nursery has been established, serving as both a conservation initiative and an educational platform for guests.
